Stella, Stella, Stella
Stella, Stella, Stella!!!
I don’t know when I bought Stella, but I got her used, and it was years before the pandemic. Stella was about 100 years old when we met, wearing plum stripes. I loved her and she lived happily in my home for years until one day her bottom just fell out. The foundation had rotted. We took her outside to strip her down and discovered the filthiest frame I have ever seen. Ever. Stella was DIRTY. If you’ve ever had furniture reupholstered and you were worried at all about what might be found inside, nothing approaches how filthy Stella was under her plum stripes! Filthy, filthy, filthy! And she had been in my home for years. You may have seen a FB post!
We stripped Stella down to her bones, and focused on cleaning her up. I ran the springs through the dishwasher as even THEY were smelly, then we stored the springs and the frame. I had other projects to do, and I really wasn’t sure what to do with Stella. Stella was in storage for several years. Since then my daughter decided to create a reading nook in her historic home. Stella had found her next calling; but first she needed some extensive frame repair and new legs similar to the broken originals and an updated fabric.
My daughter chose a Stout fabric, Mirzapor 1 Grass for Stella. Mirzapor 1 Grass is a substantial, but casual upholstery fabric with random green slubs. Mirzapor 1 Grass has no pattern repeat. It’s a departure from the formal moire she had previously been wearing; however, it’s a perfect change for a modern household with kids and pets. In order to avoid a seam across the middle of the long seat of the chaise we rotated the fabric. As a result the slubs present horizontally rather than vertically.
Stella has a matching shell shaped, down-filled toss pillow, perfect for snuggly naps, or a good read in a cozy nook.
Off you go, Stella, to your new home! Here’s to long naps, good books, late nights, cups of tea, and your new gig in a happy home.
