Louise

A couple of years ago my dear friend, Jane, and I took a spring road trip to the Eastern Townships of Quebec on a Louise Penny tour. Louise Penny writes best seller mystery novels set in the eastern townships. Yes, we are Louise Penny freaks. (Jane is kicking me under the table telling me to speak for myself.) While on this trip we stayed at an epic B&B run by the most delightful couple, Louise and Gilles. Another delightful Louise while on a Louise tour! Amazing! Do you see where I’m going with this?

Meet Louise - the chair. In the 1990s - 2000s big arm chairs, often called “a chair and a half,” were trendy. They were created for lounging to enjoy a good book and a beverage, a ballgame, or a favorite show. Louise is one of those chairs. A Louise Penny book requires a comfy Louise chair because you’ll be transported into the story for a LONG time. Plus, Louise (and Gilles), whose B and B we stayed at while on our Louise Penny tour, was the perfect hostess seeing to our every comfort. This chair had to be Louise as she is all about comfort and a good long sit. If this Louise is anything like THOSE Louises, it’s going to be good!

Built in 1991 by Englander for Henredon, Louise (the chair), was still dressed in her original 1991 fabric, and though overall she looked pretty good for 34 years, she was ready for a refresh. The client chose a thick, soft, Crypton (performance) chenille by Greenhouse Fabrics, S2810, in the color smoke. Smoke is a warm silvery-gray with a heavy velvet-like nap. The result is an extremely cushy, cosy chair perfect for bedtime stories, that next Louise Penny book, an afternoon of football, or another favorite author.

Louise has a partner chair, Gilles (of course) whose turn for new upholstery is coming up this winter. Stay tuned!

If you’re also a Louise Penny devotee and curious about our Louise Penny tour, see the link in comments below. Note the delightful photo of Gilles and Louise! We highly recommend! Let’s hear it for Louise!
