Edmund & Lucy

Introducing Edmund and Lucy, named after characters in The Chronicles of Narnia. Edmund was a bit of a pill starting out which is how he got his name. He was a touch willful and there was a bit of frame repair needed at the beginning; however, soon Edmund settled into his mature and elegant self. Lucy was just a pleasure to work from the beginning. Such an easy chair. (See what I did there?) Isn’t it interesting how two identical chairs can be so different? Those differences continued as time went on.

The chairs came to me dressed in a navy blue jacquard fabric featuring a vine fabric that the client loved. The fabric was showing it’s age, but the client loved the color and the look, so we searched to find something similar. We were able to find a jacquard fabric called Dresden Vine (4319) by Charlotte fabrics. The client is a master gardener, and this vine fit perfectly into the client’s home and values. Matching the all over subtle tone on tone vine print in this fabric presented an additional challenge, but the final result was worth it.

The cushions on this pair originally featured a 3 1/2" box band and were crowned on top and bottom by 1" for a 5 1/2" total cushion height. As the client's husband is tall they requested the seats remain at the same height, and firm. The large crown on top and bottom gave the seat cushion a definite domed look. This time we went with a 5 1/2" uncrowned cushion for a cleaner, less overstuffed look, still able to accommodate a taller person. After completion we discovered that while the 5 1/2" cushion height was perfect for HIM, it was less than perfect for HER. Supportive seating really required a lower cushion height for HER. While the chairs appear identical in the first photo, the Lucy cushion was later modified to accommodate a lower seating height. We have an elegant, custom matched set, just right for him, and for just right for her, as well. People aren't identical. Why should their chairs be?

The clients are happy, and comfortable. Edmund and Lucy are ready for the next chapter. That’s all that matters.
