๐๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐๐ฎ๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ฒ๐ฌ - ๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ข๐๐๐ข๐๐ก ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ง! ๐๐๐ฌ, ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ฒโ๐ซ๐ ๐ง๐๐ฆ๐๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ ๐๐๐จ๐ญ๐๐ก ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฌ๐ค๐๐ฒ. These chairs were done a couple months ago for my son and daughter-in-law. I forgot to get photos, and life has marched on, but here they are, finally.
My son has a lovely little man-cave, whiskey den/library in his home that features many interesting collected bottles of whiskey, decanters, a TV for watching the Lions, and books - many books. More recently - childrenโs books were added to the collection. This juxtaposition will become more apparent.
Several years ago my son said, โ๐ฐ๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ค๐จ๐ซ๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐, ๐ฐโ๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐.โ Well, I found two in euphemistically "well-loved" shape on Marketplace. The vintage 1970 leather was split and brittle, the foam underneath was crumbling, the bushings were broken, they were missing some parts, and honestly, they smelled. However, being a possibility thinker, I bought them. Bringing them back took more time than we anticipated, but weโre excited to give these two a new life.
My son and daughter-in-law chose a full grain, pure anilline leather from ๐๐จ๐๐๐ง ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ, ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ข๐ซ ๐๐ฅ๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐, ๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐๐ข๐๐ข๐ ๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐๐๐. This leather is described as having a โbeautiful hand.โ When youโre talking leather, a beautiful hand means itโs soft, supple, it drapes beautifully and is buttery. This leather fit that description beautifully. It was a pleasure to work with. The Classic line also carries a durability rating any young family appreciates.
So while the original idea was to have a stressless recliner for the man-cave/whiskey den/library, as often happens when real life occurs, new purposes emerge: After delivery Glen became the chair in the kid calm-down corner of the house while Mac provided stress-release and comfort in the adult calm down corner. And honestly, doesnโt it make sense to use a Stressless chair in a calm down corner?
These were the first ๐๐ค๐จ๐ซ๐ง๐๐ฌ chairs Iโve done and I learned a few things: Glen and Mac were rebuilt in a big way: new foam, repaired fittings, new bushings, new leather, and reupholstered and rebuilt footrest. We sourced parts from ebay, and fabricated some of them ourselves. Fabricating the foam and sewing the leather was pretty straight-forward, but the footrest foam was a bit of an adventure. It seems they are injection molded foam, so those were tricky and time consuming to replicate and shape. We rebuilt one footrest that was in bad shape, and left the other in tact with original foam as it was still in reasonable shape.
After completing Glen and Mac I found out you can buy replacement pieces, including pre-fab cushions and covers directly from an ๐๐ค๐จ๐ซ๐ง๐๐ฌ manufacturing supplier. It would not have saved any money as the ๐๐ค๐จ๐ซ๐ง๐๐ฌ pre-fab leather covers run about $300/meter (and youโll need about 3- 3.5 meters per chair and footrest), but getting it from ๐๐ค๐จ๐ซ๐ง๐๐ฌ rather than doing it all myself would have saved time. Itโs also a real bonus to get all the parts from the same supplier. I do not know if they carry injection molded footrests, but that would be a bonus if they do.
